The Yasuní National Park: Dangers of Oil Production in the ITT Block
  1. The waste left behind from oil production in the ITT block will contaminate waterways in the Yasuní and have the potential to affect a much larger area of protected lands within its floodplain.
  2. The Yasuní Park is a zone of lagoons, bogs and rivers. It comprises important basins of the Napo , Yasuní, Tiputini, Nashiño and Cononaco Rivers, as well as various tributaries of the Curaray.
  3. The Yasuní was named a national park on November 20, 1979, and subsequently recognized by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve in 1989. In 1999, the southern zone of the park was declared an intangible zone to assure the survival of the communities in voluntary isolation, the Tagaeri-Taromenane.
  4. In the north is the Cuyabeno Reserve and the intangible zone of Imuya, both zones equally within the flood plain of the Yasuní.
  5. Blocks 31 and 43 (ITT) make up the natural corridor that connects the intangible zones to the south of the Yasuní and the Cuyabeno.

The area we are talking about:

The Yasuní contains 982,000 hectares of land
The intangible area to the south of Yasuní contains 700,000 hectares

Cuyabeno contains 603,380 hectares

The intangible zone of Cuyabeno contains 435.500 hectares
